A VISION OF GOSPEL-20 by Shalom Munei Nevhutanda

Towards the end of last year, the world was hit by a coronavirus that has now famously been termed COVID-19. According to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, “the name corona refers to a crown because these viruses have crown-like spikes on their surface when viewed under an electron microscope.” The name of the current pandemic reminds me of Mark 15:17 when the soldiers were mocking Jesus, and they clothed him with a purple robe, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head.

The current figures are shocking. Covid-19 has infected almost 3 million people worldwide and it is still on the rise. There are over 200 000 deaths which are still on the rise too. The Bible reads, “and in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams” Acts 2:17; I found myself envisioning a Gospel-20 pandemic, seeing a vision of a New Gospel Revolution.

I imagined that all the statistics we are seeing in the news were that of people infected by the gospel of Jesus. I imagined that as the number of tests(testimonies) increased, the infections increased. I imagined a body of Christ that imported harvesters from other parts of the world, just like South Africa is importing doctors from Cuba. I imagined the number of people dying to sin and being born again in Christ increasing day by day. I imagined that those that had gone astray, that they too were being re-infected daily and coming back to Christ. I imagined that the gospel pandemic created hunger, a real hunger in His children to see His Kingdom come.

The Bible reads, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" Acts 1:8. My plea is that we don’t become like those ministers and councilors that have been found to be contravening the COVID regulations. We who have been called to be ministers in the Kingdom of God cannot find ourselves on the wrong side of the regulations. The regulations are simple, let us spread the Gospel to the ends of the world, so that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” Acts 2:21.

Some Christians are living asymptomatic lives, they are neither hot nor cold. Remember, you need to be infected to infect others. The Gospel needs to reside and resonate within you before it can infect and revolutionize those around you.
