So if we say we are his friends but go on living in spiritual darkness and sin, we are lying.
But if we are living in the light of God's presence, just as Christ does, then we have wonderful fellowship and joy with each other, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from every sin.
1 John 1:6-7 TLB
“And this is how we know [daily, by experience] that we have come to know Him [to understand Him and be more deeply acquainted with Him]: if we habitually keep [focused on His precepts and obey] His commandments (teachings). Whoever says, “I have come to know Him,” but does not habitually keep [focused on His precepts and obey] His commandments (teachings), is a liar, and the truth [of the divine word] is not in him. But whoever habitually keeps His word and obeys His precepts [and treasures His message in its entirety], in him the love of God has truly been perfected [it is completed and has reached maturity]. By this we know [for certain] that we are in Him: whoever says he lives in Christ [that is, whoever says he has accepted Him as God and Savior] ought [as a moral obligation] to walk and conduct himself just as He walked and conducted Himself.”
1 John 2:3-6 AMP
Whatever happens in our lives, be it trials, troubles and hardships we ought to walk and conduct ourselves just as Christ did.
“And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?
Matthew 11:2-3 NKJV
Jesus responded and said:
“The blind see again, the crippled walk, lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised back to life, and the poor and broken now hear of the hope of salvation!
And tell John that the blessing of heaven comes upon those who never lose their faith in me—no matter what happens!”
Matthew 11:5-6 TPT
We learn in Philippians 1:20 Paul has this to say:
“No matter what, I will continue to hope and passionately cling to Christ, so that he will be openly revealed through me before everyone’s eyes. So I will not be ashamed! In my life or in my death, Christ will be magnified in me.”
Philippians 1:20 TPT
The other translation says:
On the contrary, everything happening to me in this jail only serves to make Christ more accurately known, regardless of whether I live or die. They didn’t shut me up; they gave me a pulpit!
Philippians 1:20b-c MSG
“So cheer up! Take courage all you who love him. Wait for him to break through for you, all who trust in him!”
Psalms 31:24 TPT
