Obligations of Christians in dealing with Corvid-19 by Pastor Maphaha

Good day fellows .

On Saturday 25th of May 2019 at Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria, His Excellency The President of South Africa Mr C.M. Ramaphosa was inaugurated as the State President, but something that captures my inner-man and was a subject of debate in some quarters was that after The President had said “So help me God” to the loud cheers of everyone gathered, The Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng presented him with a HOLY BIBLE. When The President took an oath and said “So help me God” I immediately thought of Matthew 18:19 (NKJV)“Again[a] I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven, It meant we as the Christian community of South Africa are in agreement in bestowing presidential leadership authority unto him and declaring to our Father in Heaven.

Today on 16th of April 2020 just 11mothns after that prestigious world class event nobody ever thought the world will be facing this gigantic challenge called COVID 19, the goliath of our time that has reduced us to imprisonment in our homes, it has affected all spheres of human lives and send fear amongst the wise men of our generations. It is in the midst of this situation that our President and his cabinet have risen to challenge and ISSUED ORDERS!

WHAT ARE THE OBLIGATIONS OF A CHRISTIAN IN DEALING WITH COVID 19.

1. SUBMIT TO AUTHORITY. (OBEDIENCE TO LOCKDOWN RULES)

Romans 13:1-2 New King James Version (NKJV)

Submit to Government

13 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will [a]bring judgment on themselves.

Therefore let every Christian be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. The Christian community has an obligation not only from Government but also because it is ordained by God to comply with instructions issued by Government , it is also important to qualify that the orders given are not contrary to the HOLY BIBLE and are in the best interest of all South Africans irrespective of our diversities.

2. PRAY FOR THE LEADERSHIP AND ALL PERSONS

1ST Timothy 2:1-2 New Living Translation (NLT)

Instructions about Worship

1 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.

2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.

The aforesaid scripture is an instruction by Paul to Timothy, therefore as Christians we have an obligation to pray as instructed. Given the challenge we face I therefore request that we must pray for The President and His cabinet and in particular Dr. Z. Mkhize the Minister of Health and his Technocrats, for God to give them Knowledge, Wisdom and Ability to execute the mammoth task of eradicating COVID 19.

Y’varekhekha Adonai v’yishmerekha (Hashem bless thee, and keep thee);

Ya’er Adonai panav eleikha vichunekha (Hashem make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee);

Yissa Adonai panav eleikha v’yasem l’kha shalom (Hashem lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee shalom).

AMEN!
